At ARROJO NYC, we offer great hair, service and style to our clientele. To help us achieve this, we are always working on original, new hairdressing trends and techniques that elevate our work, and show our clients what we think is current and cool.

Our trend collection for 2019 is called Collective.

“It’s a Collective of people and ideas,” says Art Director, Lina Arrojo. “Gathering inspiration from different artistic sources, models, haircuts, and styles we wanted images that could stand alone, or work together to portray a punk and street-inspired aesthetic.”

Natural texture & beautiful yet effortless hair are distinctive features of Collective.

Alongside inspirational imagery, Collective is also a cradle of creative hairdressing innovation. Marrying techniques from two classic ARROJO hair cuts, the Swing Layer and the New Shag, a new style is born: The Swag. Blending asymmetry and disconnection in the name of seamless movement, the result of the new technique is soft playful textures, perfectly imperfect shapes, distinctly carefree attitudes.

“The Swag cut is all about freedom of movement,” adds Lina.

The color palette moves away from the double processes and pastels of recent years. Dimensional blondes, chestnut browns, and eye-popping reds signify a return to strong and bold single-tone hair colors.

To create these classic dimensional shades, ARROJO colorists invented a technique called foiliage, which incorporates full saturation backcombing, classic foiling, and hair painting –– all working together to produce a soft gradient effect.

“For the colors, we went for the strongest possible impact,” concludes Lina. “The collective worked together to discover new ways to originate fashionable, eye-popping tones, and now we have another new technique to share. It’s what this trend Collective for 2019 is all about.”

The idea of the artist collective dates back to the 1960s. During the counterculture movement, artists adopted a mentality of collaboration to portray new ideas. Taking inspiration from this concept, ARROJO’s trend Collective for 2019 is the result of a group of artists working together towards a shared creative goal.
