With a charming moniker and catchy maxim — “Life’s too short & sweet for a bad hair day” –– Head Candy has become the go-to salon for clients who want everything from classic and cool cuts to creative and high fashion colors in Cherry Hill, NJ. Winner of South Jersey Magazine’s “Best of the Best” award two years in a row, salon owner Robin Dorton made her business a part of the ARROJO Ambassador Program to bring in a great product line from a company that could also help increase creative energy and inspiration around her burgeoning business. We caught up with Robin to see how things are going at her award-winning salon. . .
Robin, tell us a about Head Candy.
I decided to start this company so that I could finally have the salon of my dreams. I wanted to have a place to do some great things with hair, but I also wanted to provide for myself and other industry professionals a place where we could truly be part of a team and have the creative freedom that we long for. We have a team of nine stylists and three apprentices and we cultivate a culture of teamwork, so we can all learn and grow together.
How many years have you been in business?
We will be celebrating our 3rd Anniversary on Black Friday!
What has been your greatest achievement within your business?
It's hard to believe that we've won so many local awards and that we've been published so many times for being open just shy of three years! We've won Best of the Best in South Jersey Magazine in 2014 and 2015, Best Bridal Salon 2015 by the Courier Post, and we've been published in Beauty Launchpad, Modern Salon, H-Trends, among others. These accolades are a great achievement yet I truly believe that becoming a part of the ARROJO family will be the most important and exciting step for the business.
4. What has been your most exciting time as an ARROJO Ambassador Salon? ex: events, seminars, education, EXPO?
Spending two days at Expo was amazing. We met some incredible people including Jessica Walker, Joshua McMichen and Derek Maldonado who were truly inspirational and make us want to reach up even higher and achieve even more. Seeing how the ARROJO Ambassador Program has had such a positive impact on so many people at Expo was hugely inspirational as well. We’re thrilled to be part of this network of great hairdressers, business owners, and people.
5. Anything else you feel is valuable that you would like to include in your feature (perfect opportunity to mention your event).
We just had an amazing event to raise awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). There was a story published in Beauty Launchpad leading up to the event about being a salon owner living with MS and the MS Society featured my story on their facebook page. We gave ten free makeovers to people living with MS to help them feel beautiful and will be writing a blog about it this week on our website. The MS Society will also be sharing that blog on their website with before and after pictures of all the makeovers. Nick joined us that evening to help us celebrate and he donated a basket to help the cause and while he was here he generously decided to give a makeover to one of our guests who was wearing an orange shirt to show her support for the fight against MS. It’s another example of how Nick and ARROJO go above and beyond for their Ambassadors.
If you live, work, or travel though Cherry Hill, New Jersey, we highly recommend Head Candy for all your hair care services. Visit their Website, here.
